Elevator Action

As super-sleuth Agent 17, code name "Otto", you must come out from undercover to accept a top-secret mission. Your country's security is at stake.

You must sneak through a heavily guarded, top-security enemy defense building to steal secret government documents. Only well-planned strategies, bullet-dodging, quick-on-the-draw accuracy and black belt karate prowess will allow you to succeed!

If you fail, your government will deny any knowledge of you or of your assignment. Good Luck!

Your entry point in every mission is on the roof. Each building begins with a narrow layout, but will take up the entire screen as you go down. More horizontal real estate means more doors — chances to be attacked by enemy agents.

To get to other floors, you will need to use the building's elevators and escalators. Elevators can be controlled directly with the up and down buttons. You can even instantly change direction in transit, hovering between floors.

Sometimes you will need to make a quick getaway. You can jump across shafts as long as the cable isn't there. Mind your footing — if you fall to the floor below, you will lose a life.

Just like you, enemy agents can also use elevators and escalators. Keep a close watch when moving through any shafts where multiple elevators are in use; they will crush anything in their way.

The building's layout isn't always going to be so straight forward. An unexpected wall or series of elevator shafts may force you to find a different path to a red door, with enemy agents right on your heels.

Each of these heavily guarded buildings is filled with blue security doors where enemy agents can emerge from. They can appear anywhere, so move quickly.

Your goal in each building is the top-secret files hidden behind red doors. You will need to get all of them for your mission to be successful, and some won't be easy to reach.

To accomplish your mission, you will need to use Otto's gun to disable enemy agents before they can do the same to you. In a pinch, you can also use his powerful jump-kick if they get the drop on you.

On the ceiling of each floor you will see hanging lamps. There aren't just for show! Shooting them out will make it more difficult for enemy agents to see and react to you.

After collecting all documents behind every red door, you will need to proceed to the very bottom floor of the building where a single elevator will take you to your getaway car.

Elevator Action
Elevator Action is a simple yet unique action game that pits you as a lone operative infiltrating a secure building full of enemy agents looking to put a bullet in you. Instead of simply being tasked with defeating infinite masses of agents, your real goal is to locate red doors in order to retrieve secret documents, then escape to the bottom of the building where your getaway car awaits. Reaching red doors becomes more difficult as you proceed to lower floors — the layout widens to allow more doors, and enemy agents become more aggressive the longer you are in the building. Available paths will constantly shift because the elevators will frequently be in use, both by you and by enemy agents. Because of this, you will always need to be plotting the best route possible, all while dodging bullets at every turn.

This early arcade port is very accurate to the original. The play control is a bit rough around the edges but you'll quickly get used to it. It will take some practice finding the right positioning to quickly enter doors and use escalators. The stages repeat endlessly so the ultimate goal here is achieving a high score before agents put an end to your spy career. Though it would later be outshined by more polished action games on the NES, Elevator Action still has a lot to offer for die-hard fans.
